VISIT OF PROFESSOR NICK COGAN FROM FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY TO THE FACULTY OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND CYBERNETICS AT TARAS SHEVCHENKO NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF KYIV

From October 7 to October 11, 2024, the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv welcomed Professor Nick Cogan from Florida State University. This visit was part of a recently signed Cooperation Agreement between our universities.

The program included a tour of the faculty, followed by a roundtable discussion. During this meeting, participants had the opportunity to discuss collaboration avenues and ideas for joint projects. Professor Cogan expressed his desire to join the organizing committee of the IT&I conference and to become a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal “Visnyk KNU: Physical and Mathematical Sciences.”

In addition, Professor Cogan became acquainted with the new educational program “Social Data Analysis,” which received high praise for its similarity to the innovative interdisciplinary program “Data Science” at Florida State University. The participants also discussed potential joint projects, such as hackathons, summer schools, and the organization of collaborative conferences.

Professor Cogan was impressed by reception during his visit to KNU, noting the high democracy and level of freedom in the academic environment in Ukraine. He emphasized that understanding the culture of the Ukrainian academic community was important for him, as Americans often lack a full understanding of the real situation in the country. The professor also highlighted the resilience of the faculty’s academic staff, who continue to work diligently towards victory, educate students, and engage in high-quality research despite the challenges of war.
