Research Fellowship Competition in Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies

“Nationalities, minorities and identity: (Re)Configuring Ukraine?”
The KIU – Competence Network Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies Frankfurt (Oder) – Berlin invites applications for RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS for the Summer Term 2026. Launched in the winter term 2024–25, the programme is now open for applications for its fourth round.
Applications are welcomed for:
- on-site research fellowships of three months,
The residential research fellowship at the European University Viadrina provides a monthly stipend of 2,000–2,300 EUR, depending on the fellow’s career level, plus a one-time travel allowance of up to 600 EUR.
Fellows are offered a workplace in the KIU co-working office in Frankfurt (Oder) and are expected to conduct their research on site, actively participating in the academic life of the KIU, including weekly research colloquia, the KIU Ukraine lecture series, and regular KIU meetings
- sur-place (non-residential) fellowships of up to nine months.
The non-residential (sur-place) research fellowship provides a monthly stipend of 450 EUR for up to nine months.
This fellowship is intended for Ukrainian researchers who remain in Ukraine for various reasons. Fellows are expected to closely cooperate with their academic hosts, participate in virtual meetings with KIU fellows on site, and contribute to joint research activities and academic outputs.
Up to 18 fellowships are available for researchers from various disciplines to conduct intensive research on aspects of Ukraine’s history, culture, statehood, society, and conflict.
