Courses

  1. Characteristics of the High-Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD) synchronization detector modules
    Desired knowledge:
    • Basic knowledge of high-energy physics, the LHC accelerator, and the ATLAS detector complex.
    • Basic knowledge of fast electronics (sub-nanosecond signals and characteristics—tens of picoseconds), modelling and practical skills, working with oscilloscopes for fast signals.
    • Experience in automation of test setups to be able to make a real contribution to the development of an automated system for HGTD testing.
  2. Modelling of the readout signal of an MPGD gaseous detector and its associated electronics using COMSOL and LTSpice, as well as analysis of the simulated data.
    Desired knowledge:
    • Basic knowledge of high-energy physics.
    • Experience working with MPGD detectors (MPGD: Micro-Pattern Gaseous Detector). Experience using COMSOL and LTSpice for this purpose.
  3. Experimental studies of the pulse characteristics of an MPGD gaseous detector under normal operating conditions and under conditions close to breakdown.
    Desired knowledge:
    • Basic knowledge of high-energy physics.
    • Experience working with MPGD detectors (MPGD: Micro-Pattern Gaseous Detector). Experience using COMSOL and LTSpice.
    • Basic knowledge of fast electronics, practical skills, working with oscilloscopes and electronics for fast signals.
  4. Modelling of detector systems and the passage of ionizing radiation through matter using the GEANT4 Monte Carlo code.
    • Basic knowledge of high-energy physics.
    • Practical experience working with GEANT4.
    • Experience working with FLUKA is a positive advantage.
