Call for Applications: Research Fellowship summer term 2025 Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies

KIU is now accepting applications for its PhD program in Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies!
The KIU – Competence Network Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies Frankfurt (Oder) – Berlin calls for applications for its second round of RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (summer term 2025).
The Research Fellowship Programme was launched in the winter term 2024-25 and is now accepting applications for its second round. The call offers scholarship opportunities for international researchers lasting from May to July 2025.
The research topics.
The programme provides up to 20 fellowships for researchers from various disciplines to conduct intensive research on aspects of history, culture, the state, society, and conflict related to Ukraine.
Research topics should be related to, but are not limited on our recent umbrella topic:
´Ukraine in Europe: Controversies, complexities and agency of a multifaceted interconnection´
The fellowship.
The fellowship consists of 9 residential positions at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt Oder, Germany, and 9 sur place fellowships for researchers currently residing in Ukraine. The duration of the programme is 3 months for residential fellows and up to 4 months for sur place fellows (up from July). A stay at the Viadrina as a visiting scholar is associated with a stipend of up to2,300 € per month.
Non-residential KIU fellows are supported in their work with 450 € per month.
How to apply.
Interested candidates should apply online through the KIU application portal by the following dates:
- For residential research fellowships: by 28 February 2025.
- For non-residential (sur-place) research fellowships: by 31 March 2025.
Applicants first need to register on the portal, the access you will find on website.
Required documents.
- Personal (CV) data, including copies of your ID document (jpg), your photo (jpg), degree certificates (jpg or pdf) and language certificates (jpg or pdf)
- A short summary (max. 350 words)
- A project proposal of max. 2,000 words, describing your research project including research question and design, work plan and intended outcomes to be implemented during your fellowship.
- A list of publications – please highlight your five most relevant publications for the planned project.
- A letter of recomendation from your academic host. It should include information about the extent to which you have already worked together with your future host and what joint projects or publications are already planned.
