The European University Viadrina is a central hub for Ukraine-related research and teaching in Germany. For more than 25 years, it has maintained close partnerships with Ukrainian universities, encompassing student exchange as well as a wide range of joint programs and projects.
With the project Learning and Teaching Together: A German-Ukrainian University Network, founded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Viadrina is committed to creating innovative teaching and learning spaces, such as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) courses and shared classrooms. These initiatives aim to intensify intercultural exchange, broaden Ukraine-related curricula, and strengthen research cooperation among faculty members.
A key focus of the COIL initiative lies in the expansion of digital teaching formats and their integration into regular curricula, fostering sustainable exchange and generating impulses for a shared European future. Building on this, the COIL Network Meeting 2025 at the European University Viadrina brings together educators to explore innovative approaches to international teaching and learning online.
A central objective of the meeting is to establish and strengthen cooperation between Viadrina teachers and teachers from Ukrainian partner universities, supporting joint teaching initiatives, the exchange of best practices, and the co-creation of innovative digital learning formats. Following the meeting, a Faculty Learning Community will be established, where participating teachers will meet regularly to continue collaboration, share experiences, and support each other.
During the event, participants will:
- Take part in workshops and discussions to co-design: COIL courses, shared classrooms, innovative learning scenarios;
- Actively contribute to a growing network of teachers focused on international collaboration;
- Define objectives, plan and coordinate joint projects;
- Exchange best practices and experiences in implementing COIL initiatives.
Through these collaborative efforts, participants will strengthen digital teaching capacities, foster sustainable academic partnerships, and promote intercultural exchange and joint curriculum development across higher education institutions.

Due to limited capacity, up to 12 participants from Ukraine can be selected.
Selected participants will receive reimbursement of €350 for mobility and €515 for accommodation (including per diem) for the duration of the event.
