Call for Applications: Viadrinicum 2025 Summer School

To the attention of the students and young researchers of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv!

The European University Viadrina (Frankfurt/Oder) is pleased to announce the call for applications for its international summer school Viadrinicum 2025, taking place from August 22 to September 8, 2025 in the German-Polish twin city Frankfurt (Oder)–Słubice.

This year’s theme, “Ruptures in the Urban Fabric,” focuses on exploring the physical and symbolic cracks in urban spaces—understood both as signs of neglect and as openings for new forms of civic imagination and spatial practices. The program invites participants to reflect on the city as a contested space shaped by policies, property regimes, and everyday practices, and to explore possibilities for alternative urban futures through interdisciplinary and participatory approaches.

Eligibility:

  • Students, PhD candidates, NGO activists, or artists up to 35 years old
  • Interest in transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral engagement
  • Proficiency in English for active participation

Program features:

  • Interactive lab.workshops (Doc.Lab, Makers.Lab, Planners.Lab) with hands-on project work
  • Urban intervention engaging local communities
  • Discussions with scholars from the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS, Berlin)
  • Public events, film screenings, and Open Space sessions

Practical details:

  • Participation is free of charge
  • Accommodation is provided
  • Travel scholarships are available for selected participants
