EUniWell’s course “Dancing Democracy. Migration as Co-Creation” combines Flamenco dancing and cultural theory. From 9 -13 July 2024, participants will meet in-person in the beautiful surroundings of an old Renaissance castle close to Konstanz. Apply by 14 June.
Join Dr. Silvana Figueroa-Dreher, a cultural sociologist, and Christiane ‘La Mona’ Seitter, a distinguished Flamenco dancer and dance teacher, for a unique workshop that combines dance, cultural theory, and social experience. This workshop, highly unusual for university courses, delves into the themes of migration and identity through an engaging mix of bodily expression and theoretical discussion. Knowledge will be transferred within a circle, iterating bodily experiences through dancing and theory-based discussions on migration.
The leading question we explore is: What is a foreign body? This question guides our exploration of our biological, social, and cultural identities, the extensions of our bodies, and our interactions with the surrounding world. Flamenco, originating from the 18th-century slums of Sevilla, serves as the medium for this exploration. It is a dance that embodies a mix of cultural, historical, musical, and bodily traditions. No prior dancing skills or experience is required—just an open mind and a willingness to engage with new ideas and people.
