The Baltic University Programme PhD Award

The BUP PhD Award is a distinction given to the authors of what is judged to be the most qualified PhDthesis defended at any of the BUP participating universities (including Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) during the past year. To be eligible the thesis has to be nominated by the supervisor/s of the thesis.

The award is established in two research areas, one award for each:

  • Natural Sciences, Technology and Engineering
  • Social Sciences and Humanities

The winners will receive a prize in the form of a diploma and support of up to a maximum of 1,000 € for either attending a scientific conference or publishing in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Nomination deadline19 May 2024

The Nominations for the BUP PhD Award must contain:

  1. The candidate’s CV.
  2. Diploma for the PhD defense, including the title of the thesis and date of the defense.
  3. An electronic version of the PhD thesis (English or any language of the BUP member states will be accepted).
  4. Support letter from the supervisor.
  5. A five-page summary in English (also for theses written in English) that should include:
  • Brief description of the research and major findings
  • List of publications
  • Description of the inter-/multi-disciplinary approach
  • Description of the novelty and innovation of the research
  • The thesis relation to sustainable development in a Baltic Sea Region context.
