The “Unissued Diplomas” exhibition, which recently concluded at the University of Edinburgh, had a profound impact. This exhibition, dedicated to honouring the memory of Ukrainian students who will never graduate because their lives were taken by the Russian invasion, resonated with many.

On 26 October, the opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by James Smith, Vice Principal International of the University of Edinburgh, Andrii Kusliy, Consul General of Ukraine in Edinburgh, Lukasz Lutostanski, Consul General of Poland in Edinburgh, Hannah Beaton-Gavreluk, Chair of the Edinburgh Branch of the Association of Ukrainians in the UK, Katrina Facenda, representative of the City of Edinburgh, as well as the university and Ukrainian community.

Nataliya Bezborodova, an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, played a pivotal role in organizing and hosting this exhibition. Through her dedication, the stories of these students were brought to light, highlighting the human cost of the war.

Throughout its duration, the exhibition served as a powerful reminder of the atrocities of Russian invasion. It united people from various backgrounds and cultures, fostering a shared understanding of the devastating toll of violence.

Although the exhibition has ended on December 15, its impact will endure. We extend our gratefulness to all those involved in making “Unissued Diplomas” as a solemn tribute to the Ukrainian students whose lives were tragically taken by the Russian invasion, leaving their dreams of graduation unfulfilled.
