European Hackathon on “Climate Change and Civil Peace”

Dear students!

The European Hackathon or Europathon will welcome students from across EUniWell Alliance at Nantes Université (France) on 24-25 January 2024 to discuss the impacts of climate change on civil peace in Europe.

During the Europathon on “Climate Change and Civil Peace”, students from across EUniWell will explore and reflect on possible solutions to preserve civil peace in Europe as climate change becomes an increasing threat all around the world.

In small groups, the students will work on one of the following topics:

  • How can we ensure democracy and the rule of law in a conflictual society?
  • How can we facilitate the peaceful integration of climate-displaced individuals and reduce prejudices and xenophobia towards others?
  • How can we ensure the well-being of populations increasingly facing extreme natural disasters?
  • What about the “common good”? How can we ensure equal access to limited natural resources?

Over the course of two days, students will think, create, share and work collaboratively on solutions and tools that local, national and European institutions and other peace stakeholders could use to address the potential risks posed by climate change to civil peace. These projects will be presented to a jury composed of scientists, political representatives and members of civil society.

By participating in this Europathon, students will have an opportunity to make their voices heard by influential stakeholders, contribute to making Europe a better place in the future, and have a chance to transform their ideas into concrete actions.

Eligibility and how to apply

The Europathon is open to students from all EUniWell universities and free of charge for students of EUniWell universities. Students are expected to share an approximately 400-word cover letter explaining their motivation. To be eligible, students need to speak French (B2 minimum).
